Love in Middle Tennessee
Last weekend, in a rural Middle Tennessee pasture overlooking the Duck River, Kaleb and Jenna Lacey came together in Holy Matrimony and became husband and wife.
It was a warm, humid, summer evening in the south with clouds creeping overhead. On my way to the wedding, I had to turn on my windshield wipers. I was worried that this outdoor event would be a bit damp. Upon arrival, I saw people with towels wiping down the chairs where the guests were to be seated.
Luckily, the sky opened up, the sun came out and it was magical.
Unjected Love
In the fall of 2022, Kaleb and Jenna met each other on Unjected.com.
Kaleb had recently moved to Knoxville, Tennessee from Oregon to escape the madness that Oregon had descended into (I can relate, I also moved to Tennessee from Oregon last year at almost the exact same time). As a paramedic, Kaleb was facing mandatory injections in Oregon to maintain employment, or be subjected to discriminatory medical interventions that would violate his belief system. Faced with this choice, he chose to move across the country to a state that appears to hold personal autonomy in a higher regard. He secured a paramedic job in Knoxville and began a new chapter of his life.
He had no friends, no family (although the rest of his family followed shortly after and relocated from Oregon to Kentucky, just north of the Tennessee border) and didn’t hesitate to begin his search for companionship.
Kaleb was an OG Unjected member back when Unjected was an app in the app store in 2021. He received an email from Unjected in 2022 announcing the new browser-based Unjected site (Version 2) and he joined again in October 2022.
Shortly after that, he discovered Jenna’s profile on Unjected. He reached with a well thought out, personalized introductory message expressing his interest and stating that they share many of the same values and beliefs.
Jenna has lived all over the country, currently just south of Nashville, and works for her family business. She was very weary of online dating and had never considered it to be a viable way of meeting a potential partner. Jenna’s mother, Tanya, had discovered Unjected.com and suggested that perhaps Jenna might have success on there. Jenna reluctantly created an account, however, she didn’t pay it much attention. Serendipitously, Jenna checked her messages and received Kaleb’s message at the right moment, seeing it just in time for them to meet when Kaleb was up the road in Kentucky visiting his family.
Their first date lasted for four hours. There was an immediate spark, the chemistry was intense and they knew that there was something there to explore. They later discovered that each of them had written in their journals that night that they knew that they had just met the person that they were meant to spend the rest of their lives with
Jenna messaged her mom after the date saying that Kaleb was the most perfect guy she had ever met. Jenna’s mom was exctatic and reached out to Shelby at Unjected right away to say that her daughter had met someone on Unjected and that things were happening.
The Proposal
After just a few months of dating, Kaleb and Jenna knew that it was the right fit. Kaleb says that he had been thinking about their future and was certain that they were meant to be together.
One night, in the car driving Jenna home from a date, sweating with anticipation, Kaleb turned to her and said “So we’re probably going to get married, right?”
Jenna said “Yep.”
Taken aback, nervous, Kaleb said “So when do you think?”
Jenna said “In the fall?”
And that was that.
To make it formal, Kaleb organized an official proposal, with Jenna’s family hiding in the bushes to take photos of the event. After further consideration, they picked June 24th, 2023 for the wedding date and began making preparations
The Wedding
I was so honored to be able to attend this magical ceremony. As the evening sun shone down, I sat amongst family and friends. I met one of Jenna’s childhood friends who had driven up from Florida to attend the wedding, and he and I became quick buddies realizing that we shared a lot in common.
The pastor announced that all of us should take our seats. The ceremony began as Kaleb stood next to the pastor, looking dapper and excited. The bridesmaids and groomsmen entered and took their positions at either side. Like any good southern wedding, gunshots were ringing out in the background as nearby neighbors were exercising their 2nd Amendment rights.
A gate that none of us had noticed before in a fence behind the guest seating section opened and Jenna walked out with her father, looking radiant and overjoyed. She walked down the aisle. I couldn’t help but glance back at Kaleb, who looked like the proudest, happiest man in the world.
Kaleb and Jenna took their positions on either side of the pastor. The pastor’s message was very poignant and spoke how this union is in honor of God, and God was definitely present that day.
They spoke their vows to each other, exchanged rings, and were pronounced man and wife.
After some photos, we all gathered for a wonderful meal, the newlywed couple cut their cake and the dancing ensued.
Shelby and Heather put together a swag-bag of Unjected goodies, had it shipped to me and I was able to deliver it in person:
And of course, we had to get a photo of the newlyweds seated in the bed of the Official Unjected-Mobile:
It was such a magical experience. I was taking as many photos as I could and was sending them to Shelby and Heather throughout the day. I think we all teared up many times that day.
